F5004 - F5 BIG-IP Connection Timed Out

Agent error code #F5004 indicates that a request to the F5 BIG-IP management endpoint did not complete within the allowed time. The device did not respond, or responded too slowly.

Common causes include:

  • The BIG-IP management plane is under heavy load or unresponsive
  • A firewall is silently dropping (rather than rejecting) packets on the management path, so the connection hangs
  • The management interface is reachable intermittently

Steps to Resolve

Check Management-Plane Health

  1. Confirm the BIG-IP management interface responds promptly from the agent host
  2. Check the device for high control-plane CPU or memory pressure

Check the Network Path

  1. Confirm no firewall on the agent → BIG-IP management path is dropping packets
  2. Confirm there is no asymmetric routing or MTU issue causing stalls
