299008 - The Agent Could Not Reach the Blocked Address List

Agent error code #299008 means the agent fetching one of your blocked address lists could not download it. The connection to the list's server failed, timed out, or the address could not be used. The addresses from the last successful fetch keep blocking, and the agent tries again at the next scheduled check.

This code appears on the list's card under Trust Engine → Threat intelligence → Blocked address lists, for a list set to be fetched by an agent.

Steps to Resolve

Check the Agent Can Reach the List

  1. On the agent's host, open the list's address with curl and confirm it answers
  2. Check the address on the list's card for a typing mistake, including http against https
  3. Check that the name in the address resolves on the agent's host
  4. If the agent reaches the internet through a proxy, check the proxy allows the list's address, or that the list's host is excluded from the proxy

Find the Original Error

The agent log records why the download failed. Look for "could not fetch blocked-address list". The log leaves out any query string in the address, so a key passed that way is not written to it.
