204003 - Azure Management API Timeout

Agent error code #204003 indicates that a call to the Azure management API did not return within the time the agent allows for it. The agent bounds every Azure call so one slow request cannot stall the grants queued behind it.

Common causes include:

  • A network path from the agent host to management.azure.com that is slow or intermittent
  • An outbound proxy or firewall delaying or holding the connection
  • Azure itself responding slowly for the region or resource group

Steps to Resolve

Check Connectivity to Azure

From the agent host, confirm the Azure management endpoint answers quickly. A request to https://management.azure.com/ should return promptly, even if the response is an authentication error (a fast 401 means the endpoint is reachable). A slow response or a hang points at the network path between the agent and Azure.

Check the Agent's Outbound Path

If the agent reaches Azure through a proxy, confirm the proxy is healthy and not rate-limiting the connection. The agent uses the standard HTTPS_PROXY environment variable if one is set.

Retry

A timeout is often transient. The agent retries on the next reconcile, so a one-off #204003 that clears on its own needs no action. Repeated timeouts point at the network path or the proxy.
